The story of the lodge ceiling

When the lodge was built, there was no insulation and there was no ceiling placed over the rafters until the 70s, when an unsightly ceiling was placed. In 2014, a large 150 year old tree became uprooted near the stream. David Greenaulgh who was helping with maintaining the forest and collecting firewood, said, “we cant just use this tree for firewood.” After a lot of reflection and research, David came up with a plan to cut the tree into 13 foot lengths and take them to a local lumber mill to be turned into tongue and groove boards for the ceiling. The ceiling needed 1200 square feet, so a total of 30 trees were removed for the ceiling.
